Art & Design
At St Nicholas CE Primary, we want our children to access a high-quality, progressive and sequential art and design curriculum. Our intent is that the children develop a life-long love of art and are equipped with the intellectual and creative skills and knowledge to produce innovative art at a high standard.
We use a scheme for our Art and Design lessons, produced by Kapow Primary, which supports pupils to meet the National Curriculum attainment targets.
The scheme is written by experts and it is designed to inspire pupils and to develop their confidence to experiment and create their own works of art.
Pupils will have the opportunity to learn about art and artists across cultures thorough history. They will also have opportunities to evaluate and analyse creative works using subject-specific vocabulary.
Lessons follow a spiral curriculum model. The lessons in each unit are sequential and build upon previous skills and knowledge.
The curriculum is organised into 4 core areas;
- Drawing
- Painting and mixed-media
- Sculpture and 3D
- Craft and Design
